Welcome to the homepage for the Disability Resource Office. The DRO, housed in the Center for Teaching & Learning in the Charles B. Phillips library, assists disabled students and their faculty in problem-solving access issues. Our shared goal is to create learning environments that are accessible, equitable, inclusive, and sustainable. If you anticipate potential barriers related to the format, requirements, or assessment of a course or courses, you are encouraged to contact Susan Lausier, Director, at 630-844-5267 to request adaptations.
Generally, students requesting adaptations are asked to present disability documentation, a valuable tool for planning strategies which will facilitate access. Please read the Aurora University Disability Policy. We also recommend reading the U.S. Department of Education publication, Students with Disabilities Preparing for Postsecondary Education: Know Your Rights and Responsibilities. http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/transition.html
If no documentation exists, students are still encouraged to contact the DRO to learn how to obtain appropriate documentation and to learn what other forms of support are available. For example, tutoring and one-on-one support for specific courses and more general development of academic skills are available in the Center for Teaching & Learning to all Aurora University students. Please contact the CTL at 630-844-5520 for further information.
