Peer Advisor Information and Application
Submission Deadline: March 18, 2005
Purpose
The Peer Advisors will assist the First-Year Faculty Advisors in orienting,
mentoring, and guiding first-year students in their transition to Aurora
University. The Peer Advisors report to the Dean of First-Year Students.
Selection
The selection of the Peer Advisors will be based upon the quality of
their application, academic record, and interview. Twenty students will
be selected as Peer Advisors, along with five alternates.
Responsibilities
- Participate in AU4U Registration and Orientation & Training – May
19-21, June 16-21, & August 4-5.
- Participate
in Fall Welcome Week activities
- Attend three campus events per
term with first-year cohort, as well as one event with cohort and First-Year
Faculty Advisor
- Communicate with First-Year Cohort on a regular
basis
- Communicate with First-Year Faculty Advisor on a regular
basis
- Be available for four hours per week for admissions tours
- Attend
all Open Houses, Scholarship Dinners, and other admissions events
- May
host a minimum of one overnight visit per term
Optional Assignment
- Assist with teaching First-Year Seminar (FYS), and receive
one semester hour of academic credit; First-Year Seminar assignment
made based on interest and availability
Compensation
$1000 per year in three installments contingent upon favorable reviews
by the Dean of First-Year Students, and the Director of the Sophomore
Experience, with input from the First-Year Faculty Advisor and the Admissions
staff.
