School of Professional Studies
Bachelor of Science in Business Leadership
The Business
Leadership program provides a degree which synthesizes knowledge from
diverse fields into a focused yet flexible plan of study. The program
is designed for the student whose professional goal is a generalist
leadership position in corporate, government, not-for-profit, or community
organizations.
The major is designed to prepare ethical, knowledgeable leaders for
today’s organizations. This interdisciplinary major emphasizes
communication, problem solving, teamwork, and human relations as the
key strategies of successful organizations. Features of the program include:
- Connecting the classroom to the world through experiential
learning
- Practicing classroom skills through the George Williams
Conference and Facilities Center
- Observing the natural environment
of organizations through field study and internships
- Selecting
an internship from pre-selected sites such as local resorts, golf courses,
businesses, Chambers of Commerce, and recreation departments
- Learning
in student-centered classroom environments with small classes and personalized
learning
- Completing courses in eight week modules that meet only
once per week
The current business environment is complex, dynamic, and intensely
competitive. It demands ethical, knowledgeable leaders that can create
a forceful vision, quickly translate that vision into action, and lead
others in the process of innovation. To be a business champion, however,
requires that a leader first understand leadership dynamics.
The
George Williams College program approach to leadership dynamics differentiates
us from other programs in that we make the leadership experience an integral
part of learning. Students will have the business courses necessary for
the understanding of organizational functions. Additionally, students
will develop the analytical skills necessary to understand the human
component of any organization in constant change.
Each student will have a choice of an experiential internship or project
outlining and applying the theory learned throughout the program. Upon
completion of the program, the student will have a multimedia portfolio
that demonstrates the student’s integration of theory and application
by combining course work and practical “real world” content.
The portfolio will be a useful tool for job interviewing and career development.
New classes begin every eight weeks and meet at convenient times for
working professionals. Because we understand that many students are attempting
to combine family, work, and study, we offer day and evening classes
that generally meet once a week. To assist with tuition expenses, financial
aid is available.
