College of Professional Studies
School of Social Work
MSW Program Options:
The MSW curriculum is comprised of courses that constitute 60 semester
credit hours of study. Courses in the MSW program are carefully designed
to be sequential and must be taken in order. This means that you will
need to complete required courses according to the School’s degree
plans and class schedule. Courses are offered in the day and evening.
Aurora University offers concentrations in Clinical Practice and in
Management and Community Practice. We also offer School Social Work,
Type 73 Certification with your MSW degree, or as a Post-MSW, Type 73
Certification.
You have many options for pursuing your course of study: full-time;
part-time; and advanced standing. Full-time students complete the program
in two years; part-time students may select either a 3-year or 4-year
option; and students with advanced standing may choose a one-year full-time
option, or two-year part-time option.
The MSW Program at the Lake Geneva campus offers two courses of study;
part-time, and advanced standing. Part-time students will typically complete
the program in three years; and students with advanced standing will
typically complete the program in two years. Classes are held Friday
evenings and Saturday mornings. Summer course
work is required.
The first 30 semester hours of study in the MSW program introduces the
student to the area of generalist social work practice. The remaining
30 hours allow the student to specialize in one of two areas: clinical
social work; or, management and community practice. Students interested
in becoming school social workers follow a specialized curriculum within
the clinical concentration.
