School of Social Work
Accreditation and Certification:
Both undergraduate (BSW) and graduate (MSW) programs in social work are
accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Only
CSWE accredited programs and schools are recognized by the state of Illinois
and all other states as the required academic preparation to attain professional
social work licensure and to call oneself a "social worker."
Our BSW program, accredited by CSWE, is recognized by accredited graduate
schools of social work as eligible preparation for "advanced
standing" consideration for the MSW degree.
For students who are interested in preparing to be school social
workers,
the MSW program has a school social work track that is approved by the
Illinois State Board of Education for Type #73 Certification.
Social workers who have already attained their MSW degree from any CSWE
accredited program, and wish to attain Type #73 school social work certification
may apply for our Post-Master's Type #73 certification program,
which involves several courses and a school internship requirement.
