Social Work Organizations:

BSW students enjoy the Student Social Work Association's welcome back lunch at Luigi's Pizza.

Students enrolled in the BSW program are active in two organizations on campus specific to social work in addition to the numerous other campus student organizations. Each student organization offers students an opportunity to develop their leadership skills.

Social Work Association (SWA):
SWA's goal is to provide a community for social work students to participate in advocacy, service projects, recreational and social activities. The emphasis of SWA is on educating its members. Membership is open to all BSW students. There are no membership fees. Meetings are monthly.

National Social Work Honor Society
The BSW program has established a chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society, a national honor society for undergraduate students. The AU chapter is Zeta Epsilon. The purpose of the Honor Society is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and to promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Zeta Epsilon fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.

To qualify for membership in the Honor Society, students must:

  • have completed a minimum of two terms of social work course work;
  • have earned a minimum 3.75 GPA in social work classes;
  • have earned an overall GPA of 3.5.
