BSW Curriculum:

As a BSW major you will be required to complete 12 social work courses for a total of 44 semester hours. You will also take two social work electives for a total of 3 semester hours. Your senior year will involve a year long internship of 450 hours in a social service agency. While in the field you will concurrently take practice courses that will help you integrate your field and classroom learning. Below are listed specifics regarding the BSW degree requirements.


General Degree Requirements

To graduate from Aurora University students must have earned 120 semester hours. The last 24 semester hours must be course work taken at Aurora University.

Students must meet the University's general education requirements which are designed to provide the student with a broad base in the communication and liberal arts.

Transfer Students
Transfer students who enter Aurora University with an A.A. (Associate of Arts) or an A.S. (Associate of Science) degree from a community college are viewed as having met the University's general education requirements. Such students must, however, take two upper division courses (3000 or 4000 level) not in their major that meets the general education requirements. PSY3350 Childhood and Adolescent Development and PSY3360 Adulthood and Aging if taken at Aurora University meet the upper division requirement.

Social Work Prerequisite Course Work

The liberals arts provide the foundation upon which the BSW curriculum is built. The BSW program has the following specific liberal arts courses that serve as prerequisites or co-requisites for the required social work courses:

Transfer Students
Students can begin the the junior year social work courses even if they have not completed all of the prerequisites and/or co-requisite liberal arts courses. However, these courses must be completed during the junior year prior to beginning field instruction. Prerequisite courses cannot be taken during the summer term between the junior and senior years.

Social Work Elective Courses

Social work electives focus upon a filed of practice, a specific population, or an approach to practice. All social work majors must take a minimum of two social work electives before graduation. Possible electives include:
