Advisement:
The Personal Touch
One of the advantages of a school like Aurora University is
the investment the faculty have in the students. Faculty serve as mentors
to BSW students in the program. Each student is assigned a mentor,
who is a member of the School of Social Work faculty. Your mentor will review with you your academic progress,
help with academic planning, and guide your development as a professional.
It is recommended that you develop a relationship with your faculty mentor
by:
- getting to know your mentor, including their career background and
interests
- setting an appointment early on with your mentor to get acquainted
- sharing with your mentor who you are and what your interests in
social work are.
Use Your Faculty Mentor!
- To discuss your professional and career development
- to discuss your academic concerns
- to write you a reference for an internship, a job, or graduate school
- to discuss possible field internship sites
Freshmen and Sophomore Advisement
As freshmen or sophomore pre-social work majors, Dr. Considine, BSW Program Director will serve as your faculty mentor.
Transfer Students
As a transfer student you are initially mentored by the BSW
program director, Dr. Considine, who develops an academic plan for you. When you begin classes in the Fall of your first term
you will be assigned a permanent faculty mentor who will work with you until
you graduate.
