Spartan Baseball Student-Athlete Named CoSIDA-ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

AURORA, Ill. May 7, 2009 - Aurora University Spartan baseball junior designated hitter Kirk Williamson (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley H.S.) was named to the ESPN the Magazine District V Academic All-District Team.

Williamson, a First-Team selection, is a junior history major with a minor in secondary education at Aurora University. To be considered for the honor, the nominated student-athletes are required to maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average throughout their academic career at AU. As a First-Team member, Williamson will represent District V on the CoSIDA-ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America national ballot.

In addition to his success in the classroom, Williamson is hitting a team-leading .411 with 18 doubles, four home runs, 37 runs scored and 36 runs batted in. He has been hit by five pitches, walked six times and has a .616 slugging percentage and .447 on-base percentage.

The AU baseball team, currently 27-11 overall and 16-6 in the Northern Athletics Conference, is in action next on Friday, May 8, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. against Rockford College in the 2009 Northern Athletics Conference Baseball Tournament. All games of the tournament are held at Road Ranger Stadium in Rockford, IL.

The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District teams are selected by CoSIDA member Sports Information Directors within the district based on the student-athletes’ academic prowess while being a steady influence on their respective athletic field.
