AU Men Victorious Over Edgewood

AURORA, Ill. December 6, 2008 - The Spartans of Aurora University defeated the Edgewood College Eagles 103-87 on Saturday afternoon in Thornton Gymnasium. AU scored over 100 points for the second consecutive contest.

The first half was controlled by Spartans as the half ended with a score of 52-40. AU shot 42 percent (16-of-38) from the field. The Eagles finished the half 13-of-36, a 36 percent from the field.

AU was paced by senior guard Chad Trudo who finished the half with 22 points, including 12-12 from the free throw line. Edgewood was lead in the first half by freshman guard Ben Wisniewski with 11 points and freshman forward Kent Faurote with 10.

AU started out the second half taking a 19 point lead, but the Eagles came fighting back cutting the lead to five with 7:20 to play in the second half.

However, the Spartan offense proved to be to much for Edgewood as AU went on an immediate 6-0 run and eventually built a 17 point lead with two minutes to play.

Top Spartan performers were senior guard Chad Trudo who finished the game with 30 points including a perfect 16-of-16 from the free-throw line. Junior forward Shane Roland had 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, four rebounds and three steals, sophomore center Skyler Ormsbee had 12 points on six-of-six shooting from the field, junior forward Lance Robinson had 12 assists and nine rebounds, and three Spartans scored in double figures off the AU bench, senior forward Chris Lee (11 points and eight rebounds), junior guard Kari Coleman (11 points on three-of-five shooting from the field) and freshman guard Kevin Vandenberg (10 points on five-of-eight shooting from the field).

On the losing end, Edgewood was led by freshman Faurote (23 points including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc) and Wisniewski (22 total points and five-of-five from the three-point line) on the night.

The win moves the Spartans to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference. Edgewood now moves to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference
