Blue Jays Top Spartans

AURORA, Ill. November 28, 2008 - The Elmhurst College Blue Jays defeated the Aurora University Spartans 83-54 Friday night in non-conference action at Thornton Gymnasium.

The Blue Jays started off on fire in the first half, as they combined to shoot 67 percent (22-of-33) from the field, including 6-of-10 from three-point range.

Junior forward Lyndsie Long did most of the damage for Elmhurst, as she tallied 16 first half points. Sophomore guard Kelsey Monroe also contributed 11 points for the Blue Jays, as they built a commanding 53-25 lead at the end of one period.

For the Spartans, sophomore guard Ashley Daniels led the way with nine first half points.

The second half was a defensive struggle, as both teams struggled to put points on the board, compared to the high scoring effort in the opening half.

However, the Spartans were not able to close the gap as Elmhurst proved to be too much to handle down the stretch.

For the game, AU was led by Daniels with nine points, senior forward Kim Voiles and sophomore center Michelle Perry each chipped in eight points.

Long (18 points) and Monroe (15 points) were the leading scorers for the Blue Jays

With the loss, the Spartans fall to 1-3 while the Blue Jays improve to 2-2. Next action for the Spartans comes on Saturday, November 29, when they travel to Naperville, IL to take on the North Central College Cardinals. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
