NAC Announces 2008 Women’s Soccer Post Season Awards
AURORA, Ill. November 14, 2008 - The Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) announced its 2008 women’s soccer All-Conference Team and postseason awards. The Aurora University Spartan women’s soccer team, winners of the NAC Women’s Soccer Championship for the third consecutive season, had three players on the First-Team All-Conference Team, one player on the Second-Team, two players on the Honorable Mention team and two players on the All-Freshman Team.
The AU women’s soccer program captured the Northern Athletics Conference championship for the third consecutive season with an 11-1 regular season record.
On the season, the Spartans out-scored their opponents 81 to 22 (22 games). AU finished the regular season with a 16-6 overall record and captured their 10th conference title in the last 14 seasons.
Those garnering NAC women’s soccer All-Conference First-Team recognition were junior forward Jessica Novickas (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park H.S., 20 goals, 14 assists and five game-winning goals), senior midfielder Allison Bailey (Dixon, IL/Dixon H.S., eight goals, 10 assists and one game-winning goal) and freshman forward Haley Pschirrer (Peoria, IL/Peoria Notre Dame H.S., 17 goals, five assists and five game winning goals).
Junior midfielder Nikki Counsell (Oconomowoc, WI/Oconomowoc H.S., four goals, four assists and one game-winning goal) was selected NAC Second-Team All-Conference, while senior midfielder Lindsey Horneck (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles North H.S., one goal, 10 assists) and freshman midfielder Sam Dykema (Grand Haven, MI/Grand Haven H.S, four goals, six assists and two game-winning goals) were selected as NAC Honorable Mention.
Pschirrer and Dykema were additionally selected to the NAC All-Freshman team by the conference coaches.
