Spartans Eliminate Falcons in NAC Tourney

AURORA, Ill. November 5, 2008 - The Aurora University Spartan women’s soccer team defeated the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons 5-1 in the semi-final round of the Northern Athletics Conference tournament Wednesday at Vago Field.

The top-seeded Spartans wasted little time scoring first, as freshman forward Haley Pschirrer notched her 17th goal of the year courtesy of a Jessica Novickas assist in the 19th minute to put the Spartans in the lead 1-0.

Minutes later, freshman midfielder Samantha Dykema made the score 2-0, as she scored off an Allison Bailey assist. Six minutes later, senior midfielder Kendra Sickinger scored her fifth goal of the year when she was assisted by freshman midfielder Christine Kwilosz.

The Aurora defense would yield a goal with time running down in the first half, as Falcon midfielder Keisha Kochanowski recorded her second goal of the year off a Rachel Kleba assist to make the score 3-1.

In the second half, Novickas would add two goals, her 19th and 20th of the year, as the Spartans ended any hope of a Concordia comeback.

Spartan goalie Jenny Jarvis went the distance in goal for the Spartans, as she recorded three saves on the day. Falcon goalie Mary Ryan made eight saves.

Aurora out-shot the Falcons 19-7.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 16-5 (11-1 NAC) while the Falcons fall to 12-7 (9-2-1 NAC). The Spartans advance to the NAC Championship game and will host the winner of this evenings NAC semi-final between Edgewood College and Dominican University. Game time is set for 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Vago Field.
