Spartan Women Win on Senior Day

AURORA, Ill. October 21, 2008 - The Aurora University women’s soccer team defeated the visiting Cougars of Concordia University Chicago 5-0 Tuesday afternoon at Vago Field as AU also celebrated senior day prior to the contest.

The Spartans scored their first goal of contest when junior forward Jessica Novickas tallied her 17th goal of the year off an assist from senior midfielder Kendra Sickinger in the 8th minute of action.

One minute later, freshman midfielder Haley Pschirrer scored her 13th goal of the year and first of the game off a nice assist from senior forward Allison Bailey.

The Spartans would control the action throughout the remainder of the first half but could not find the back of the net before halftime.

AU would score three more times in the second half as Bailey opened the scoring her seventh goal of the season off an assist from senior defender Heather Skeen in the 58th minute, putting the Spartans up 3-0. Five minutes later Pschirrer tallied her second goal of the contest off an assist from Novickas. The AU scoring was concluded in the 79th minutes off a corner from senior wing Lindsey Horneck to sophomore forward Claire Buchanan. Buchanan scored her fourth goal of the season with a header.

The Spartan defense was solid all game, as they did not allow any shots by the Cougars. Junior goalie Jenny Jarvis was solid between the posts in picking up her 10th shutout of the year.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 14-4 (10-0 NAC) while the Muskies fall to 1-15 (1-10 NAC).

The Spartans will be in action next on October 25, when they travel to Edgewood College. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m. in Madison, WI.
