Spartan Named Northern Athletics Conference Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week

AURORA, Ill. October 21, 2008 - Aurora University Spartan football player, senior defensive back Matt Meyer (Yorkville, IL/Yorkville HS), was named the Northern Athletics Conference Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 19, 2008.

On the week in which the Spartans defeated Northern Athletics Conference rival Concordia University Wisconsin 21-19 and remain unbeaten (3-0) in conference play on the season and improve their season record to 5-1.

Meyer led the AU defense in tackles with 11, helping the Spartans remain unbeaten in NAC play (3-0) and improve to 5-1 on the season. Meyer played a key role in AU's defense limiting Concordia University Wisconsin to 91 yards on the ground on 36 carries (2.5 yards per carry) on the afternoon. He also played well in the secondary, breaking up four passes.

On the season, Meyer has 39 tackles, six interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), four tackles for loss and six pass break-ups.

Meyer and the Spartan football team are in action next on Saturday, October 25, 2008, when they travel to Rockford College in a Northern Athletics Conference match-up. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Rockford, IL.
