Spartan Men Defeat Muskies

AURORA, Ill. October 19, 2008 - The Aurora University men’s soccer team defeated Lakeland College in a physical match Sunday afternoon at Vago Field on Senior Day.

After a scoreless first half, Aurora sophomore midfielder Mike Emma scored his seventh goal of the season off a Chase Corricelli assist in the 51st minute to put the Spartans up 1-0. The Spartans struck again in the 64th minute when junior midfielder Justin Pedersen scored unassisted putting the Spartans up 2-0. The goal was Pederson’s second of the year.

The Spartans increased their lead when Corricelli put the game out of reach as he tallied his 17th goal of the year, 55th of his career, in the 78th minute, putting the Spartans up 3-0 for the final.

The Spartan defense was stout all game, as they limited the Muskies to seven shots. Spartan goalie Matt Ness was solid in goal for the Spartans, as he went the distance in goal for his first shutout of the season.

The Spartan offense out-shot the Muskies 17-7 for the game.

With the victory, the Spartans improve to 11-6 (6-2 NAC) while the Muskies fall to 7-5-1 (5-2-1 NAC).
