Spartan Named Northern Athletics Conference Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week

AURORA, Ill. September 23, 2008 - Aurora University Spartan football player, junior defensive end Pat Funk (Morris, IL/Morris H.S.) was named the Northern Athletics Conference Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 21, 2008.

Funk had a tremendous day for the Spartans, in a 31-28 loss to Illinois Wesleyan University. On the afternoon, Funk had six tackles (four solo and two assisted), two quarterback sacks, three pass deflections, three quarterback hurries, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Funk was in the Titan backfield all afternoon and one of his pass deflections was returned 13 yards (by linebacker Chris Jackowiak) for the go ahead score (28-24) with five minutes to play in the contest. His two sacks improved his season total to five on the season.

Funk and the Spartan football team are in action next on Saturday, October 4, 2008, when they host long-time rival Benedictine University in the Northern Athletics Conference opener. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on AU Field.
