Spartans Defeat Maroons 1-0

AURORA, Ill. September 20, 2008 - The Aurora University Spartan men’s soccer team defeated the Maroons of the University of Chicago 1-0 in non-conference action on a humid Saturday afternoon at AU Field.

The game was a defensive battle all afternoon until senior forward Chase Corricelli tallied the game’s only goal with a mere seven minutes remaining on an assist by sophomore forward Anthony Amedei. With his eighth goal of the year, Corricelli inched closer to becoming AU’s all-time leading scorer, as he has now amassed 46 goals for his career and trails the record by only six goals.

Spartan sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Soderstrom was solid between the posts all day as he managed seven saves in the shut-out effort.

The Maroons out-shot the Spartans 16-11.

With the win, Aurora improves to 4-4, while Chicago falls to 2-3-1.
