Spartans Defeat Warriors 10-0

AURORA, Ill. September 17, 2008 - The Aurora University Spartan women’s soccer team defeated the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College 10-0 in Northern Athletics Conference action on a humid Wednesday afternoon at AU Field.

AU got off to a hot start thanks to freshman midfielder Haley Pschirrer’s quick goal on an assist from senior wing Lindsey Horneck in the 12th minute. Twenty seconds later, Senior forward Allison Bailey scored on an assist from junior forward Jessica Novickas. Novickas was not done, as she tallied her fourth goal of the year a mere 14 seconds later. One minute later, junior wing Nikki Counsell scored on an assist from Pschirrer and Novickas. Pschirrer would finish the day with three goals. Other Spartans who scored included junior forward Kim Knaub, junior wing Amanda Hertz, and freshman wing Brook Walendzik. The Spartan’s other goal came on a Wisconsin Lutheran own goal.

Junior goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis was solid in goal for the Spartans in the shutout effort.

Warrior goalie Kathryn Koepke was credited with 22 saves in the losing effort.

AU accumulated 46 shots while Wisconsin Lutheran was limited to zero shots by AU’s stout defense.

With the win, Aurora improves to 5-2 (2-0 NAC), while Wisconsin Lutheran falls to 1-7 (1-1 NAC).
