Spartans Defeat Cardinals with Shutout

AURORA, Ill. September 10, 2008 - The Aurora University Spartan Women’s soccer team defeated the Cardinals of North Central 3-0 in non-conference action on a beautiful afternoon at AU Field.

AU got off to a quick start thanks to senior forward Allison Bailey’s goal on an assist by freshman midfielder Haley Pschirrer in the 13th minute of the opening period.

Just 10 seconds later Aurora capitalized again on an unassisted goal by junior forward Jessica Novickas, the third of the season for Novickas.

In the 58th minute Pschirrer scored her first collegiate goal of her Spartan career on a bang, bang play off a pass from Bailey to freshman midfielder Samantha Dykema and on to Pschirrer.

Spartan junior goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis stopped all six shots that came her way. That is Jarvis’s second shutout on the year.

Cardinal goalie Elise Manzie had nine saves in the losing effort.

The Spartans out shot North Central 12 to 6 in the game.

With the win, Aurora improves to 3-2, while North Central falls to 2-2-1.
