Spartan Named Northern Athletics Conference Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week

AURORA, Ill. September 9, 2008 - Aurora University Spartan football player, senior defensive back Matt Meyer (Yorkville, IL/Yorkville HS), was named the Northern Athletics Conference Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 7, 2008.

On the week in which the Spartans defeated Lake Forest College 35-13, AU’s first non-conference victory since 2001 (Valparaiso University) and first time opening the season 1-0 since 1999, Meyer had an afternoon to remember.

Meyer led an AU defense that forced four turnovers (all interceptions) including grabbing two himself. His first of the afternoon, he returned 74 yards for a touchdown. Additionally, Meyer serves as AU's punter, punting five times for 213 yards (42.6 average) and a long of 53.

Meyer and the Spartan football team are in action next on Saturday, September 13, 2008, when they travel to Macmurray College in a non-conference match-up. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Jacksonville, IL.
