NAC Announces Baseball All-Conference Teams

AURORA, Ill. May 14, 2008 - The Northern Athletics Conference announced the 2008 Baseball All-Conference Team. Aurora University’s Spartan baseball team placed three players on the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Honorable Mention All-Conference team.

Junior first baseman Martin Diaz (Aurora, IL/West Aurora H.S.), sophomore outfielder Tony Wellner (Minooka, IL/Minooka H.S.) and sophomore pitcher Steve Salazar (Carol Stream, IL/Glenbard West H.S.) were named Honorable Mention NAC All-Conference.

Diaz hit .353 on the season with two home runs, 10 doubles, 31 runs scored and 27 runs batted in and in conference play he hit .436 with two home runs, eight doubles, 22 runs scored and 21 runs batted in.

Wellner followed his All-Rookie team selection as a freshman with a fantastic sophomore year. He hit .365 with a single season AU record 23 doubles, five home runs, 38 runs batted in and 34 runs scored, while hitting .353 with 15 doubles, two home runs, 19 runs batted in and 17 runs scored in conference play.

Salazar had a team best 5-2 record with a 3.75 earned run average and 50 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched, in conference play, he was 4-1 with a 3.92 earned run average and 35 strikeouts in 41-1/3 innings pitched.

AU finished the season with a 25-15 record and were 15-7 in the Northern Athletics Conference baseball season.
