Spartans Named to NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team
AURORA, Ill. May 12, 2008 - The Aurora University softball team placed three players on the NCAA Division III Regional All-Tournament team.
AU went 2-2 in the eight-team regional, losing to the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh in the opening game 5-0, then went on to defeat North Central College (8-0 in five innings) and Simpson College (6-0) before falling to Oshkosh 2-1 to conclude the tournament for the Spartans.
Senior third baseman Dana Cebular (Brookfield, IL/Riverside-Brookfield H.S.), sophomore pitcher Anna Snyder (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake H.S.) and sophomore designated player Briana Martin (Andalusia, IL/Rockridge H.S.) were named to the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire Regional All-Tournament team.
For the regional, Martin hit .400 (4-for-10) with two doubles, three runs batted in and one run scored, while Cebular hit .250 (3-for-12) with a home run, two doubles, five runs batted in and one run scored. Snyder was strong in the circle for the Spartans, finishing the tournament with a 0.77 earned run average, a 2-1 record and 23 strikeouts in 23-1/3 innings pitched. Her 23 strikeouts were the second most in the tournament.
AU’s women finished the season with a 37-8 overall record and 23-1 in Northern Athletics Conference action and were the NAC regular season and tournament champions. The conference title is the fifth consecutive for the Spartans and the NCAA softball tournament appearance was the Spartans’ third in the last four seasons.
