Spartans Fall to Warriors in NAC Contest
AURORA, Ill. January 24, 2008 - The Aurora University Spartan women’s basketball team fell to the visiting Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College 79-67 inside Thornton Gymnasium Thursday evening.
The first half saw the Warriors outscore the Spartans 50-39 and at times in the opening frame it seemed as though the Warriors could not miss. Wisconsin Lutheran shot a blistering 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the field and 80 percent (four-of-five) from the three point line. The Spartan’s had a slow start and Wisconsin Lutheran never looked back, building what would remain a 10-point lead throughout the game.
Warrior senior forward Emily Laete scored 12 first half points to lead Wisconsin Lutheran, while Spartan junior forward Kim Voiles gave her best effort to keep Aurora close with 14 first half points.
The second half showed life for the Spartan’s as they began to crawl back, cutting the Warrior lead to seven numerous times but were unable to get any closer. The first half shooting of the Warriors proved to be too much for the Spartans.
Voiles and freshman center Michelle Perry led the way for the Spartans, Voiles finishing with a double-double on a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds while Perry added 18 points and five rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran had three starters finish in double figures, Emily Laete (19 points and six rebounds), junior guard Kristen Dillon (19 points) and junior forward Alaina Miller (10 points).
The Spartan’s next match-up comes against Edgewood College on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Madison, WI.
