Spartan Women Soccer Student-Athlete Named NSCAA Scholar All-Region
AURORA, Ill. January 15, 2008 - Aurora University Spartan women’s soccer junior defender Heather Skeen (Loveland, CO/Loveland H.S.) was named to her second Academic All-Region team of the season, this time by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Skeen’s first award, earlier this season came from ESPN the Magazine, and she was named District V Academic First-Team All-District. Skeen was named to the NSCAA All-Central Region Honorable Mention Team.
Skeen is a psychology and English major. She was a 2006 Northern Athletics Conference Scholar-Athlete and is a key piece of the AU defense that has allowed 15 goals in 23 games (0.65 goals per game) and has 13 shutouts.
The Spartans finished the 2007 season as Northern Athletics Conference regular season and tournament champions, their ninth conference title in the last 13 seasons, with a 19-3-1 overall record and 12-0 in the NAC. AU made a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Championships. On the season, the Spartans out-scored their opponents 77 to 15 (23 games). The Spartans set school or tied records for wins (19), consecutive games with a goal scored (22), consecutive wins (19), team shutouts (12) and lowest goals against average (0.65).
