Spartan Women Fall at Home
AURORA, Ill. January 12, 2008 - The Aurora University women’s basketball team lost to the visiting Falcons of Concordia University (WI) 80-40 on Saturday afternoon inside Aurora’s Thornton Gymnasium. The win pushes Concordia’s record to 9-4 overall, and 7-1 in the Northern Athletics Conference. The loss, which had conference-leading implications, drops Aurora’s record to 7-7 overall and 5-2 in the NAC.
The Falcons got off to a fast-paced start and never looked back as they took a 48-22 lead into halftime. Aurora had difficulty scoring early and was never able to recover from Concordia’s quick scoring outburst.
The second half witnessed more of the same, as Concordia continued its offensive onslaught while Aurora never found that hot streak in order to close the gap. The Falcons were paced by junior forward Krista Mayyou, who led all scorers with twenty-four points on ten of fifteen shooting while also picking-up eight rebounds. Her afternoon was highlighted by going four of five from beyond the three-point arc. Sophomore forward Pearl Wallace also had a big day for the visitors, as she amassed twenty-one points and twelve rebounds in the victory.
The Spartans were led by freshman forward Michelle Perry, who came off the bench to pace Aurora with ten points and six rebounds. Junior forward Kim Voiles also contributed nine points in the losing effort.
Aurora returns to action on Wednesday, January 16th, when they travel to Benedictine University in order to take on the Eagles. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
