Spartans Open 2008 with Non-Conference Home Victory

AURORA, Ill. January 4, 2008 - The Aurora University women’s basketball team defeated the visiting Cardinals of North Central College 64-54 on Friday evening in front of a Spartan-friendly, Thornton Gymnasium crowd. The win pushes the Spartans’ record to 7-5 overall, while North Central falls to 5-6.

The first-half was a battle on both ends, with Aurora opening up an early lead only to see the Cardinals close the gap. By the time the intermission came around, Aurora held a slim 31-29 lead.

The Spartans were led by junior guard Meagan Re, who notched eleven first-half points, while North Central sophomore guard Jessica Davis contributed nine first-half points for the Cardinals.

The second-half saw more of the same, with both teams playing a fast-paced, transition game. The Spartans managed to hold off North Central for just long enough, en route to claiming the ten-point home victory.

Re managed to keep her hot-hand going, finishing with 15 points on seven-of-eight shooting from the field and four assists. Senior guard Kisha Miller and freshman guard Ashley Daniels also managed to score in double-digits for the Spartans, contributing twelve and ten points, respectively.

North Central was led by Davis’ game-high 16 points. Davis also had four rebounds and two assists on the evening.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, January 8th, when they travel to Rockford to take on NAC foe Rockford College.
