Spartans Receive NSCAA Regional Accolades
AURORA, Ill. December 27, 2007 - The Aurora University Spartan Men’s Soccer team finished the 2007 season with a 12-4-5 overall record and 8-0-2 in Northern Athletics Conference action. With its on-field success, the AU men’s soccer program also gathered regional awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Senior defender Jordan Barry (Decatur, IL/St. Teresa H.S.), senior midfielder Andrew Taylor (DeKalb, IL/DeKalb H.S.) and junior forward Chase Corricelli (Peoria, IL/Notre Dame H.S.) were named to National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Central Region teams.
Barry, a First-Team selection, along with Taylor and Corricelli who were both selected as Third-Team members, anchored an AU team that tallied 41 goals in 21 games and also shut out 10 opponents. Barry and Taylor capped off fantastic collegiate careers and were joined by Corricelli in being named Northern Athletics Conference First-Team All-Conference following the 2007 season.
Taylor also received a significant post season award as he was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Second-Team.
On the field, the Spartans were led by the trio with Corricelli leading the Spartan offense with 15 goals, three assists and five game-winning goals, while Taylor chipped in two goals, three assists and one game-winning goal. Barry, the leader of the defense, added one game-winning goal.
