Spartan Women’s Soccer Garner Top 25 Ranking
AURORA, Ill. October 30, 2007 - The Aurora University women’s soccer program made another historical step in the 2007 season, this time being ranked in a national Top 25 for the first time in the programs 14-year history.
The D3kicks.com Top 25 released for week 9 of the 2007 season has the Spartans ranked as the No. 25 team in the country. The Spartans moved up one slot from last week, where they were the top team in the “others receiving votes” category.
The Spartan women are 17-2-1 and finished 12-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference and are the 2007 Northern Athletics Conference Champions.
AU is on a 17-game win streak (school record) and in that time has out scored their opponents 71 to 5.
Leading the way for the Spartan women this season are sophomore forward Jessica Novickas (Highland Park, IL/Highland Park HS) with 17 goals, five assists and five game winning goals; junior forward Allison Bailey (Dixon, IL/Dixon HS) has 12 goals, nine assists and four game winning goals; sophomore midfielder Nikki Counsell (Oconomowoc, WI/Oconomowoc HS) has four goals and 10 assists; and sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis (Naperville, IL/Naperville Central HS) has a 16-2-1 record with 56 saves, 11 shutouts (ties a school single season record) and a 0.68 goals against average.
The Spartan women’s soccer team is in action on Thursday, November 1, 2007, when they host the semi-final round of the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. on AU Field with the opponent yet to be determined.
