Spartan Men Earn Important NAC Victory

AURORA, Ill. October 27, 2007 - The Aurora University Spartan men’s soccer team defeated Northern Athletics Conference foe Edgewood College 1-0 on Saturday at AU Field.

The win pushes AU’s record to 12-3-4 overall and 8-0-2 in the NAC, while Edgewood falls to 9-7 overall and 7-3 in the NAC.

The game was a highly competitive match, with both teams playing stellar defense. Fittingly, the physical first half came to an end with both teams tied at zero.

The second half saw the lone goal of the game come on a pass from Spartan senior forward Danny May to fellow senior forward Jordan Barry. Barry found the back of the net via a header with the goal coming in the sixty-third minute.

Both teams continued to play top-notch defense as the game progressed with the final horn ending in a 1-0 contest.

AU was led by freshman goalkeeper Kevin Soderstrom’s fine effort in goal and in the losing effort were the four phenomenal saves by Edgewood goalkeeper Fran Yacuta-Santana.

The win clinches the second seed for Aurora in the upcoming Northern Athletics Conference tournament. The Spartans’ opponent is still to be determined, but the game will be played on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. on AU Field.
