Spartans Win 12th Straight over Marian

AURORA, Ill. October 13, 2007 - The Aurora University Spartan women’s soccer team extended their win streak to 12 games with a 2-1 victory over Marian College Saturday afternoon in Northern Athletics Conference Action.

The Spartans and Sabres played to a scoreless first half with Marian freshman goalkeeper Tiffany Erdman coming up big for the visiting Sabres, stopping five Spartan scoring chances in the half.

Aurora sophomore forward Jessica Novickas scored her 13th goal of the season just over a minute into the second half, she was assisted by senior wing Laura Wagley.

Marian was able to knot the game at one in the 67th minute when freshman forward Sohaila Athavein tallied her fifth goal of the season.

The Spartans responded immediately, in the 69th minute, when Wagley scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from senior forward Allison Bailey and sophomore midfielder Kendra Sickinger.

Aurora sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis made the 2-1 lead stand as she picked up her 12th win of the season, she had two saves.

Aurora out shot Marian 28 to 7 for the game, including 16 to 3 in shots on goal.

With the victory, Aurora is now 12-2-1; 8-0 NAC and Marian goes to 7-7; 5-5 NAC.
