Spartan Named Northern Athletics Conference Men’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week

AURORA, Ill. October 9, 2007 - Aurora University men’s soccer player, freshman goalkeeper Matt Ness (Traverse City, MI/Suttons Bay HS) was named the Northern Athletics Conference Men’s Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 7, 2007.

Ness played a key role in AU's 1-0-2 week with both ties coming against tough nationally ranked opponents, No. 18 Dominican and No. 25 UW-Oshkosh. All 14 of his saves came in the two 1-1 double overtime ties, with 11 against Oshkosh. His victory came in a 4-1 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College.

Thus far on the season, Ness has a 5-1-2 overall record with two shutouts, 30 saves and a 1.09 goals against average.

Ness and the Spartan men’s soccer team are in action next on Thursday, October 11, 2007, when they travel to the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater in a non-conference match-up. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Whitewater, WI.
