Spartan Women Defeat NAC Foe on AU Field

AURORA, Ill. October 6, 2007 - The Aurora University women’s soccer team defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible College (MBBC) by a score of 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at AU Field in a Northern Athletics Conference match-up. The win improves Aurora’s record to 9-2-1 overall, and 6-0 in the NAC; while Maranatha falls to 5-7 overall, and 3-4 in the NAC.

AU junior forward Allison Bailey got the scoring started when she found the back of the net twelve minutes into play. Bailey was assisted by fellow junior Lindsey Horneck.

Bailey would add another goal, the eventual game winner, ten minutes later on a penalty kick in order to give Aurora a 2-0 lead.

Spartan sophomore forward Jessica Novickas added a pair of goals in the second half, pushing her team leading total to eleven. Fellow sophomore Nikki Counsell dished out her team leading eighth assist on the first Novickas goal. Novickas has scored a goal in all six of the Spartans conference games this season and on eight of the last nine contests overall..

In the losing effort, Maranatha midfielder Melissa Nichols added a penalty kick goal in the 78th minute of play..
