Spartan Men Pick up Home NAC Victory

AURORA, Ill. October 6, 2007 - The Aurora University men’s soccer team defeated Northern Athletics Conference opponent Maranatha Baptist Bible College (MBBC) by a score of 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at AU Field. The win improves Aurora’s record to 7-2-2 overall, while MBBC falls to 5-9. The NAC victory pushes AU’s conference record to 4-0-1, while Maranatha’s NAC record dips to 1-4.

The scoring got started when junior Chase Corricelli found the back of the net off of a Marshall Reed assist. The goal was Corricelli’s twelfth of the season and thirty-fifth of his career, which moves him into third place all-time at Aurora.

Thirty minutes later, freshman Anthony Amedei went unassisted to the net in order to make the score 2-0 in favor of Aurora. Senior Phil Tedford quickly followed that up with another unassisted goal in order to extend Aurora’s lead to 3-0. That score would hold up through the intermission.

In the second half, MBBC would fire back and make the score 3-1 off of an Andrew Solarek goal, his tenth of the season. Unfortunately for the Crusaders, it was their lone score of the contest.

In the closing minutes, a successful penalty kick allowed Spartan senior Joey Catrino to extend Aurora’s lead to 4-1, which would hold up as a final.
