Spartan Women's Golf Captures Tournament Victory

AURORA, Ill. September 24, 2007 - The Aurora University Spartans women’s golf team captured their first tournament victory of the 2007 season, winning the Aurora University Women’s Golf Spartan Invitational at Blackberry Oaks Golf Course with a team score of 778 (402/376) over the two-day event.

AU out-distanced numerous Northern Athletics Conference opponents by 73 strokes en route to the title. Concordia University, WI finished second with an 851 (418/433) and Wisconsin Lutheran College finished third with a 993 (510/483). Milwaukee School of Engineering, Edgewood College, Marian College and Lakeland College also had individuals participate in the Invitational.

AU freshman Kristen Richardson (Shabbona, IL/Indian Creek HS) claimed medalist honors and helped the Spartans to the tournament title. Richardson shot a 91 on Sunday and an 88 Monday for a 179 (+35) total. Fellow Spartan, senior Brittany Butcher (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles East HS) finished a close second to Richardson, shooting an 88 on Sunday and 92 on Monday.

Spartans who finished in the top 10 included sophomore Lindsey Pilmer (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) and senior Allison Sperling (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS). Pilmer finished seventh with a two-day score of 205 (109/96) and Sperling finished ninth with a two-day score of 214 (114/100).

Freshman Erin Lapp (Sugar Grove, IL/Esperanza HS) finished 18th with a two-day score of 257 (132/125).

The Spartan women’s golf team is in action again on Tuesday, September 25, 2007, when they travel to the North Central College Invitational. Meet time is set for noon. in Naperville, IL.
