AU Spartan Women Win in Shutout Fashion

AURORA, Ill. September 20, 2007 - The Aurora University women’s soccer team improved their season record to 5-2-1 with their fourth straight shutout against non-conference of Kalamazoo College on Thursday afternoon on AU Field.

The Spartans got on the board in the 25th minute of play as freshman sweeper Katie Speranske scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore wing Nikki Counsell.

The early goal was all sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis would need as she would go on to post her fourth consecutive shutout victory. She had four saves on the afternoon.

Almost forty-four minutes later, Counsell found the back of the net, tallying an unassisted goal, to make the score 2-0. Senior wing Laura Wagley added another AU goal in the 76th minute on an assist from Counsell, solidifying the 3-0 Spartan victory.

Kalamazoo sophomore goalkeeper Kassandra Johnston picked up the loss for the Hornets, she had eight saves in the first-half. Senior Monisha Berkowski had four saves in the second-half in the net for the Hornets.

Aurora returns to action on Wednesday, September 26, when they host Rockford College in Northern Athletics Conference action. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. on AU Field.
