Spartan Receives Regional Academic Accolade

AURORA, Ill. March 15, 2007 - Following a successful 2006 season, the AU men’s soccer program continued to gather regional awards to go with its on field success.

Junior defender Andrew Taylor (Dekalb, IL/Dekalb HS) was honored for his academic success as a student-athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He was named to the NSCAA All-North Central Region scholar athlete honor roll.

Taylor, a pre-law and business major at AU, had three goals, four assists with one game-winning goal on the field. The Spartans were led by Taylor as he anchored an attacking defense that had eight shutouts, allowed 31 goals and a 1.41 goals against average.

The AU Men’s Soccer program’s first NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championships appearance in the program’s history as a NCAA institution and a 12-5-4 record and 8-1 with a second place finish in the NAC,
