Spartan Named NAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week

AURORA, Ill. February 14, 2007 - The Aurora University men’s basketball team received top conference honors as senior guard Darrick Leonard (Hazel Crest, IL/Rich Central H.S.) was named Northern Athletics Conference men’s basketball Student-Athlete of the Week.

Leonard led the 15th ranked Spartans (21-2, 14-2 NAC) to a 2-0 week in the Northern Athletics Conference, averaging 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, while shooting 60.7% (17-of-28) from the field and 53.8% (7-of-13) from three-point range.

In AU's 83-80 overtime win over Dominican University, Leonard tallied a double-double with 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and 13 rebounds. In AU's 90-62 victory over Edgewood College, Leonard was 9-of-13 from the field, good for 24 points and handed out five assists.

On the season, Leonard is averaging 14.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.39 assists per game, while shooting 46.6% (110-of-236) from the field.

Leonard and the Spartan men are in action next on Thursday, February 15, when they host Concordia University, Chicago. Game time is at 7:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium.
