Spartan Named Football All-Region

AURORA, Ill. January 17, 2007 - Aurora University Spartan Football student-athlete Austin Deer (Fisher, IL/Fisher H.S.), a senior defensive back, was named to the 2006 Football Gazette NCAA Division III All-North Region Football Team.

Deer was an All-North Third-Team selection following his senior season in the Spartan defensive backfield. Deer was named Illini-Badger Football Conference First-Team All-Conference. For the year, he led the Spartans with 55-1/2 tackles, eight pass break-ups and four interceptions. The captain also added five tackles for loss, one quarterback sack, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one blocked kick. Deer additionally returned a missed extra-point attempt on October 28, 2006, at home against Eureka College 98-yards for a two-point conversion.

The Spartans concluded the 2006 campaign with a 5-5 record; 5-2 in the IBFC under second-year Head Coach Rich Duncan.
