Spartans Victorious over Inferno

AURORA, Ill. January 13, 2007 - The Aurora University women’s basketball team picked up another NAC victory on Saturday afternoon, as they defeated visiting Alverno College 66-44.

The Spartans were led by senior captains Naomi Guise, Laura Wiesner and Beth Plucinski. Guise led all scorers with 15 points, while Wiesner had a double double with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Plucinski chipped in 12 points on four-of-eight shooting from the field. Plucinski’s day was highlighted with all-around play, adding six steals, five rebounds and five assists.

Aurora was 27-of-64 (42.2%) from the field and played a stellar defensive game, holding the Inferno to 29.5% shooting from the field (18-of-61) which enabled the Spartans to pull away right from the get go.

Alverno was led by Lisa Sorgi, who paced the team with 13 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field.

The NAC win pushes Aurora’s record to 8-5 overall and 5-2 in the NAC, while Alverno drops to 2-11 overall and 0-7 in the NAC.

The Spartans will travel to River Forest on Wednesday to take on Concordia University, IL. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
