Spartans in Complete Control in Victory

AURORA, Ill. October 18, 2006 - The Aurora University Spartans defeated the Lakeland College Muskies 3-1 in Northern Athletics Conference play on a wet and dreary AU Field Wednesday afternoon. The Spartan’s had dominant control of the ball the entire game.

Aurora was able to score first as Amador Contreras scored in the 7th minute off a Marshall Reed assist. Lakeland would not be down long as Kevin Fitchett put the Muskies on the board in the 11th minute, knotting the game at one.

Despite a 1-1 tie heading into intermission, the Spartan’s out shot the Muskies 12-2 in the first half of play.

The second half was dominated by Aurora, as the Spartans controlled the tempo and ball. Amador Contreras opened the half with a goal in the 47th minute giving him his second of the day. Only shortly after, AU’s Alex DeGurian scored on a very nice pass from Rob Michaels in the 53rd minute.

This would be all the scoring the Spartan’s needed to close out the Muskies. The Spartan’s continued their dominance in the shot category, out shooting Lakeland 21-0 in the second half.

Aurora moves to 10-2-3 overall and 6-1 in the NAC and Lakeland drops to 2-11 overall and 2-5 in the NAC.
