Spartan Win Over Stars Places Them On Top of the NAC

AURORA, Ill. October 11, 2006 - The Aurora University women’s soccer team played a solid game, offensively and defensively, en route to a victory over Northern Athletics Conference foe Dominican University. The Spartans defeated the Stars 3-0 Wednesday afternoon at frigid AU Field.

After playing to a tie at the intermission, Aurora jumped out early in the second half as Erin Kwiatkowski assisted on a Lauren Thomas in the 54th minute. Thomas added a second goal thirteen minutes later on an assist from Laura Wagley and the Spartans found themselves with a 2-0 lead. Nikki Counsell finished off the scoring by finding the back of the net at the 73:56 mark, Kim Knaub assisted her.

Spartan goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis was tested just once as AU out shot the Stars 37 to 1 for the game. Jarvis earned her seventh shutout of the season. Dominican keeper Jacqui Lani had 13 saves in the losing effort.

The victory pushes the Spartans’ overall record to 10-3-2, while keeping them undefeated in the NAC at 7-0. Dominican falls to 8-3-2 and 6-2 in the NAC with the loss.
