Spartans Dominate Alverno in Homecoming Weekend Contest

AURORA, Ill. October 8, 2006 - The Aurora University Spartans (9-3-2; 6-0 NAC) won by a score of 11-0 in today's Northern Athletics Conference match-up against Alverno College Inferno (4-7-1; 1-4-1 NAC) on AU Field.

It did not take the Spartans long to find the net as scored within the first thirty seconds of the game. The Spartans did not look back after that goal as they tallied ten more in the first half to take a 11-0 lead into half time. AU out shot the Inferno 33 to 0 in the opening half and 13 to 0 in the second half.

The Spartans during the second half played a huge game of possession as no goals were scored by either side.

Eleven different Spartans scored goals in the first half, Laura Wagley (0:28), Kim Knaub (2:44), Lauren Thomas (5:08), Erin Kwiatkowski (14:05), Nikki Counsell (24:18), Ashley Camillo (26:22), Anna Wallace (28:51), Kendra Sickinger (31:26), Amanda Haines (35:51), Courtney Ksioszk (39:43), and Kaylynn Bryant (42:56).

AU's Morgan Roewer dished out two assists for the day. She assisted on goals from Wallace and Ksioszk. Also adding assists were Laura Wagley, Anna Wallace, Katie Powell, Lauren Spurr and Sarah Tandet.

AU goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis kept a clean slate in her winning effort.

The Spartan defense also stepped up by not allowing the Inferno to attempt a single shot on goal.

The Spartans out shot the Inferno 46-0 for the game.
