Spartans Win in Decisive Fashion

AURORA, Ill. October 2, 2006 - The Aurora University Spartans (7-2-2 ; 4-0 NAC) won by a score of 11-1 in today’s Northern Athletics Conference match-up against Concordia University-Chicago (2-8-1; 2-2 NAC) on AU Field.

After starting late due to a fifty minute lightning delay, the Spartans came out firing on all cylinders, tallying four goals in the first 5:20 of play and went on to take a 7-0 lead into halftime. AU out shot the Cougars 19 to 0 in the opening half.

The second half did not play out any different for Concordia as AU outscored the Cougars 4-1.

Spartan Laura Wagley scored three first half goals, which ties an AU record for most goals scored in one half of play.

Nine different Spartans would tally goals, Wagley with her three and Lauren Omsberg scored the eventual game winner at 2:25 into the game. Kim Knaub (3:29), Lindsey Horneck (35:42), Morgan Roewer (41:35), Nikki Counsell (56:69), Lauren Thomas (65:30), Heather Skeen (70:35) and Katie Powell (80:56).

AU’s Allison Bailey dished out four assists on the day. She assisted on goals by Omsberg, Wagley (twice) and Counsell. Also adding assists for the Spartans was Alex Contreras. Nikki Counsell (two), Anna Wallace, Amanda Hertz, Heather Skeen and Kendra Sickinger.

Concordia’s Shannon Kimes tallied the lone Cougar goal in the 76th minute, she was unassisted.

AU goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis had one save in her victorious effort.

The Spartans out shot the Cougars 32-2 for the game.
