Spartans Hold Off Tough Cougar Squad
AURORA, Ill. October 2, 2006 - The Aurora University men's soccer team defeated the Cougars of Concordia
University (IL) by a final score of 8-3. It was a lobsided affair in
which the bulk of Aurora's scroing took place in the second half.
The Cougars struck first in the 13th minute on goal off the foot of Ben
Price. It was not too long before the Spartans struck back on goal by
Brad Johns and assisted by Marshall Reed. The Cougars then scored another
goal by David Garcia to make the score 2-1. It was a back and forth game
during the first half of play with each team scoring one more time a
piece. The Spartans' goal came by Drew Taylor and the Cougars' by
Brandon Holm. AU and CU ended the first half of play with the Cougars leading 3-2.
The second half of play was one plagued by yellow cards. There were seven of them in the half, three of which were given to the Spartans. The
second half would also be where Aurora pulled away from the Cougars.
Brad Johns scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Drew
Taylor which tied the game and the Spartans then went on to score 5
unanswered goals. Drew Taylor also scored a goal in the 75:17 minute
which was an unassisted shot from mid field. Also scoring for AU was
Chase Coricelli, Scott Anderson, Jeff Horst.
