Spartans and Titans Play to a Tie

AURORA, Ill. September 27, 2006 - The Aurora University Spartans and the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans battled to a 2-2 double overtime tie Wednesday afternoon on AU Field.

Despite being out shot 30 to 7 for the game, the Spartans took advantage of their chances, taking a 1-0 lead to intermission and just seven minutes into the second half took a commanding 2-0 lead.

AU freshman forward Kim Knaub tallied both Spartans goals, fellow freshman Lauren Omsberg assisted on the second Knaub goal.

Not to be outdone, the IWU Titans used their break wisely and came out energized in the second half. The Titans scored at the 77:14 mark when Beth Talentowski found the back of the net, she was assisted by Tanya Hnastchenko. The Titans tied the contest at two with a minute and 30 seconds to play in the game on an unassisted goal by Lyndsey O’Brien.

The overtime sessions saw aggressive play and scoring opportunities by both teams, but no shot could sneak past the keepers.

AU goalie Jenny Jarvis had 15 saves on the day, while IWU goalkeeper Emily Castner had one save.
