Spartan Women Roll to Victory
AURORA, Ill. September 16, 2006 - The Aurora University women’s soccer team got off to a slow start on Saturday afternoon, but picked it up quickly and marched on to a 3-1 victory over visiting Concordia-Wisconsin in the first Northern Athletics Conference women’s soccer contest played at AU.
The Spartans fell behind early as Concordia’s Nicole Sabel struck first with a goal at the 21:07 mark. That would be all the offensive success Concordia would see on the day.
AU quickly rebounded as Kendra Sickinger tied the game with ten minutes left in the first half off an assist from Allison Bailey.
Aurora struck again and saw themselves go up 2-1 on the goal by Kim Knaub with Erin Kwiatkowski assisting in the 61st minute. The Spartans tacked on another goal as Allison Bailey went unassisted for the goal in the 66th minute.
AU goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis improved her record to 4-2-1 on the year, she record three saves and allowed the lone goal.
CUW goalkeeper Daria Klotz had eight saves for the Falcons.
The 3-1 victory was another example of AU’s ability to turn up the pressure as the game goes on and establishing themselves as a strong second half team.
AU out shot Concordia 13 to 6 for the game, 10 to 3 in the 2nd half.
