Spartans Pull Out Tough NAC Victory

AURORA, Ill. September 16, 2006 - The Aurora University and Concordia University, WI men’s soccer team played a great game Saturday with AU coming out on top in the first Northern Athletics Conference men’s soccer contest at AU.

The Spartans played an aggressive game and wound up being on the winning end of a 2-1 score, decided in overtime.

The Falcons struck first in the 47th minute as Brian Nord scored on an assist from Casey Stelmachowicz.

Falcon goalkeeper Steve Huenink was tested by the AU offense as he recorded 14 saves on the day. AU finally got the offense started when Rob Michaels put one in the back of the net at the 81:22 mark. He was unassisted, knotting the score at one apiece late in the game.

The contest would come down to OT and the Spartans struck first as junior Marshall Reed saw his header sail into the goal at the 96:00 minute mark for the golden goal.

Spartan goalkeeper Nick Kimmer had four saves in the victory, improving Aurora to 5-0-2 overall ; 2-0 NAC and Concordia falls to 3-2-2 overall ; 1-1 NAC

AU out shot the Falcons 22 to 10 in the contest.
