Spartan Named First-Ever Northern Athletics Conference Player of the Week

AURORA, Ill. September 6, 2006 - Aurora University men’s cross country runner, freshman Matt Baker (Dixon, IL/Dixon H.S.) was named Northern Athletics Conference Player of the Week for the week ending September 3, 2006. The award was the first NAC men’s cross country Player of the Week awarded in the conference’s early existence.

Baker recorded a 15th place finish out of 205 runners at the Elmhurst College Early Bird Classic last Friday. The rookie set an Aurora University school record in the 5K event with a time of 16:26.52, and was the top finisher among Northern Athletics Conference schools. The Spartans finished 10th at the 18-team meet.

The next action for Baker and the men’s cross country team comes on Friday, September 15, 2006, when they host the Aurora University Spartan Classic at Oakhurst Forest Preserve. Meet time is set for 5:15 p.m. in Aurora, IL.
