Spartans Dominant in Home Opener

AURORA, Ill. September 3, 2006 - The Aurora University women’s soccer team showed no signs of taking their holiday break off on Sunday. The Spartans controlled the ball and the game tempo en route to a commanding 3-0 victory over Coe College at AU field.

The Spartans played a very physical game and kept Coe College on the defensive as they dominated the ball the majority of the game. The scoring got underway early on in the second half as sophomore Allison Bailey scored the first of her two goals with 36:00 remaining. Her first goal was assisted by Laura Wagley

Bailey followed that up with another goal later on in the day, connecting with Jessica Novickas, to put the Spartans up 2-0 at the 63:00 mark. Courtney Ksioszk tacked on the Spartans third goal with just around 5:00 remaining, she was assisted by Lindsey Horneck.

Freshman goalkeeper Jenny Jarvis picked up her first collegiate victory and shutout, she had two saves on the day.

AU outshot Coe 27 to 2 in the game with 16 of the Spartan shots being on goal.

AU looks to follow up Sunday’s victory with another win on Monday, as they play host to Dubuque University at 2:00 p.m.
